The basics

Get Started On Facebook

Facebook isn't just one big site; it's made up of lots of separate networks based around things like schools, companies, and regions.

If you want to see the profiles of your classmates or coworkers on the site, be sure to use your school or work email to register. You can search for anyone on Facebook, but you can only see profiles of your friends and people in your networks.
Edit Your Profile

Fill out your profile with your photo and interests, your work and education history, your favorites and more.

What's on your profile?

Your profile contains your personal info and recent activity. You can also post cool videos, articles and other things you find on the Web or on Facebook. You can read the messages your friends leave on your wall, and you can see all the photos of you from around the site.

Upload Photos and Write Notes

Facebook lets you upload as many photo albums as you want. You can upload photos and notes from your mobile phone. When you tag your friends in photos, the photos show up in their profiles.

Publish Notes

You can also share your thoughts by writing notes or importing your external blog. Like photos, you can tag your friends in notes.

Your Home Page also shows you all of your incoming messages, pokes, friend requests, event and groups invites, and more.

See which of your friends have upcoming birthdays, and check out the videos, articles, links and other items your friends are sharing with you.
Protect Your Privacy

At Facebook, we believe you should have control over your information and who sees it. So in addition to the basic visibility rules – only your friends and people in your networks can see your profile – we also give you granular control over the information you post to the site.
